The Client

Knife River is one of the largest construction materials and contracting companies in the United States. Operating in 19 states including Alaska and Hawaii, Knife River is also one of the 10 largest producers of construction aggregate in America - in Oregon alone, Knife River operates 39 quarries, offices, and retail locations.

The Challenge

Knife River’s Oregon facilities used a legacy fuel management system to monitor fuel use in their stationary pumps, but needed a system that could provide the same monitoring and control for more than 30 mobile tanks used on sites across the state. The company was using paper sheets to track fuel use, but sheets were difficult to collect, sometimes lost or illegible, and outdated by the time they arrived at headquarters.

The Solution

FuelCloud’s portable design and cloud-based software was the perfect fit for these mobile tanks. The hardware was easy to install, and provided Knife River with real-time updates on fuel use and inventory, whenever they needed it. FuelCloud also provided a layer of security by locking pumps behind user designated pin codes, giving Knife River added peace of mind when their mobile tanks were in more remote locations. After an initial trial period, Knife River is now installing 30 more FuelCloud systems on its fleet of tanks.
